Chrome Roads Completes Its Integrated Secure Card Platform
After four years of focused engineering, Chrome Roads has completed an integrated version of our secure card platform.
The Chrome Roads Pro Card is a next-generation identity badge, closer to a smartphone than a conventional RFID credential. It combines physical and logical access, a state-of-the-art secure element, indoor location, fall detection, voice recognition, a panic button, multiple radios, a fingerprint sensor, and a color touchscreen.
Our vision is to help workers, students, governments, and institutions operate more securely and safely while reducing friction across physical and digital environments.
This was my first sophisticated hardware project. Coming from a software career where things move very fast, I often felt we moved too slowly. After comparing notes with other hardware founders and engineers, I’m proud of where we landed—and the timing may be unusually good.
COVID accelerated the shift to contactless credentials, validating our choice to prioritize capability over contact-card dimensions. Global instability and ongoing cybercrime are forcing organizations and nations to reassess alliances, partnerships, and security, while AI is increasingly seen as a security concern. Chrome Roads fits much of this emerging landscape. I wish the circumstances were different, but the need is real.
The development period also let us run early pilots, create valuable IP, and build a robust AI-assisted engineering practice that saved hundreds of thousands in development costs.
The platform includes the Pro Card, our application server, Chrome Card Services for partner integration, and an SDK for OEM partners that need custom code on the card.
During development, we built global relationships across logical and physical access control, healthcare, assisted living, infrastructure, construction, utilities, education, defense, transportation, oil and gas, banking, and insurance.
Recent work has focused on secure-element architecture and controlled production provisioning, including biometric-template protection, Match-on-Chip fingerprint capabilities, X.509, MIFARE/DESFire, WebAuthn/FIDO2, secure personalization, and key management.
Our physical-access logic integrates with a broad range of commercial door terminals and systems. FIDO2 is working over USB and NFC, with Bluetooth planned and formal certification work underway. The platform also supports messaging, emergency functions, and partner-selected workflows.
We’re now shifting from building the technology to establishing a repeatable, channel-led commercial model. We’re working with prospective partners in the United States and internationally to launch pilots, create vertical solutions, and build repeatable routes to market.
We welcome conversations with channel partners, systems integrators, identity and access-control companies, OEMs, pilot customers, and strategic investors.
